About us

SH (17 of 50)Sacred Heart & St Bernadette’s is a lively and active parish covering Carlton, Gedling, Sneinton, Colwick, Burton Joyce and Lowdham. A parish since 1877, we are part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Nottingham, under the leadership of Bishop Patrick McKinney. Our Parish Priest is Fr Joe Wheat who took over from Fr Eamon O’Hara in 2014.

We are fortunate to have as part of our parish Sacred Heart Primary School and are linked with Christ the King Secondary in Arnold.

Our main church is Sacred Heart on Carlton Hill and we are fortunate that it is open all day, every day to allow people to come in, say a prayer, light a candle and spend a bit of time in the peace and quiet it offers.

Message from Fr Joe;

Welcome to the website of our parish. I hope you find the information here useful.

The teaching of the Catholic Church is that the parish is not the church building, but the Body of Christ, made up of living stones. Each member of our parish is one of those living stones and vital to the life of the parish. If you have not been part of the parish before or have been away from the church for a while, you are particularly welcome and I hope you feel at home in the parish.

I invite every parishioner to come forward and help us if you can. The door is always open to new people and new ideas which can contribute to sustaining and developing the work of the parish. Those in our community who are sick or housebound can make an immense contribution to the spiritual life of the parish with their prayers.

Enjoy your visit to this website and, even better, feel free to call in at either of our churches and experience the warm welcome and peace we offer. If you have time, come to one of our services where everyone is always welcome.

Fr Joe
